In the kitchen, machines now part of our lives -- and we love it

In my kitchen, the most-used appliance is my food processor. I've made gallons of chopped trinity for gumbo; quarts and quarts of my favorite red bell pepper and walnut dip, muhammara; endless batches of Better Than Better Cheddar for parties. I love this recipe for Food Processor Carrot Cake given to me in 2014. The motor has never stalled since I bought it at Costco in Phoenix in the mid-1980s. It's so old the white base has turned yellowish. So when the big Cuisinart blade recall happened in mid-December, we turned the blade over, and on the underside of the four rivets, sure enough, the metal was cracked.
